Founder’s Message
Regular Repeated Self Examination leads to Early Diagnosis, better Prognosis and Cure.

’m not a doctor. I’m not a psychiatrist. I am just a woman who went through an experience and decided to help others who might find themselves in a similar situation. The idea of offering support and comfort to patients later on turned onto afternoons in my living room with like-minded people. Both men and women. They collectively felt that something need to be done when it comes to the lack of information available on cancer in Oman. There is a growing number of Omanis affected by the disease. So we moved out of the living room and formed, what today is called the Oman Cancer Association (OCA).
Our function is simple and our message is clear: “Regular examination and early detection saves lives”.
OCA has been fortunate enough to receive the influence and along with it, the obligation to touch lives of people at large. Especially women. By delivering quality education in health, we hope to empower people to beat this often deadly yet curable disease. It is because of dedicated supporters, individuals and groups that help us organize events, allows us to achieve our goals. Two accomplishments that I am particularly proud of and grateful to have been a part of and bringing about are the Mobile Mammography Unit (MMU) and Dar Al Hanan. As for forming the Association, implementing various projects has been a “learn as we go” process. But there is no end to what can be achieved by a group of dedicated volunteers and supporters who actively contribute to the positive change they want to see in their society. To quote Gandhi – “You may never know what results come of your actions. But if you do nothing, there will be no result.”
I want to take this opportunity to thank all who have supported us in the past and those who continue to do so every year. We could not have successfully completed these various projects that were undertaken over the years without your support. I look forward to working with you all the coming years and build and grow our Association.
